This is Die Drei Kantoren’s second CD, consisting of Chazzanut, Yiddish and Chasidic melodies, Israeli songs, and Sepharadic piyutim – all in original arrangements. We are happy to feature some wonderful guest artists who made this second album even richer in sound and inspiration. Two of the pieces in this album – Pitchu Li and Elu Dvarim – were composed especially for us by our very own Ido Ben-Gal and Assaf Levitin. Our dozens of concerts in Jewish communities and in festivals in Germany and abroad motivated us to get back into the recording studio as quickly as possible. For this we are very thankful.

-Oh, Kalman, my dear husband,
No oil is left in my kitchen.
My dear husband, how is it possible
To make a latke with no oil?
Again Kalman prepares himself,
Wears his cap, puts on his boots,
Rides to the market, buys quickly
A bottle of virgin oil and goes back home.
-Here, Hannah Zelda, my beloved wife,
Here is your oil, make a latke!
Because on Hannukah what do I wish?
To eat a sweet, warm latke…
-Oh, Kalman, my dear husband,
No sugar is left in my kitchen!
My dear husband, how is it possible
To make a latke with no sugar at all?
Tired and sad and thinking of a latke,
Kalman puts on his boots again,
Goes back to the market, even more hungry,
Buys sugar and rides back home.
-Here, Hannah Zelda, my beloved wife,
Here is your sugar, make a latke!
Because on Hannukah what do I wish?
To eat a sweet, warm latke…
-Oh, Kalman, my dear husband,
Couldn’t we postpone it all for tomorrow?
My dear husband, how is it possible
To make latkes when I have no more strangth?
Then Kalman takes off his boots,
Puts on an apron, rolls up his sleeves,
Kneads the dough, forms it well,
He who laughs last, laughs best!
-Oh, Hannah Zelda, morning has come,
Open your eyes – here’s a latke!
Because on Hannukah what do we wish?

חג החנוכה הגיע ובא!
ובחנוכה נפשי מה חשקה?
לאכול לביבה חמה ומתוקה!
-הוי, רבי קלמן, אישי היקר,
אצלי במטבח קמח לא נשאר.
בעלי היקר, ואיך זה אוכל
להכין לביבה בלי קמח בכלל?
אז רבי קלמן שינס את מתניו,
חבש כובעו, נעל מגפיו,
השוקה דוהר, קונה הוא מהר
שק קמח לבן והביתה חוזר.
-הנה, חנה זלדה, אשתי האהובה,
הנה לך הקמח להכין הלביבה.
כי בחנוכה נפשי מה חשקה?
לאכול לביבה חמה ומתוקה!
-הוי, רבי קלמן, אישי היקר,
אצלי במטבח שמן לא נותר.
בעלי היקר, ואיך יתכן
להכין לביבות אם שמן לי אין?
שוב משנס רבי קלמן מתניו,
חובש כובעו, נועל מגפיו,
השוקה דוהר, קונה הוא מהר
כד שמן טהור והביתה חוזר.
-הנה, חנה זלדה, אשתי האהובה,
הנה לך השמן להכין הלביבה,
כי בחנוכה נפשי מה חשקה?
לאכול לביבה חמה ומתוקה...
-הוי, רבי קלמן, אישי היקר,
אצלי במטבח לא נשאר סוכר!
בעלי היקר, ואיך זה אפשר
להכין לביבה בלי טיפת סוכר?
עייף רבי קלמן, נפשו עצובה,
נועל מגפיו וחושב על לביבה,
לשוק הוא חוזר, רעב עוד יותר,
סוכר הוא קונה והביתה דוהר.
-הנה, חנה זלדה, זוגתי האהובה,
הנה הסוכר, הכיני לביבה,
כי בחנוכה נפשי מה חשקה?
לאכול לביבה חמה ומתוקה...
-הוי, רבי קלמן, אישי היקר,
שמא נדחה הלביבות למחר?
בעלי היקר, הן איך זה אפשר
להכין לביבה כשהכח נגמר?
אז רבי קלמן חולץ מגפיו,
לובש הוא סינור, מפשיל שרווליו,
ולש הבצק, יוצק ויוצק,
צוחק אחרון רק מי שצוחק!

עיניים פקחי – הנה לביבה!
